The patron saint festivities in Tolosa offer a wide range of activities catering to all population segments. This Friday's opening day was particularly dedicated to retirees, preceding the official start of the celebrations with the 'txupinazo' (firecracker).
The seventh edition of Seniors' Day gathered approximately 200 attendees for the traditional popular lunch held at the Tinglado venue, organized by the associations Iturriza, Harizpe, and Beti Gazteak. Attendance surpassed last year's figures, highlighting the success of this established event.
While the community lunch was the main event, the day also included morning activities. A mass was held at the San Francisco church, followed by a lively street parade led by a 'txaranga' band, which marched from the Harizpe premises to the Tinglado. Despite forecasts of high temperatures, overcast skies provided a pleasant atmosphere for the celebration.
As is customary, Seniors' Day also featured tributes to individuals recognized for their contributions to the welfare of Tolosa's retirees and pensioners. Harizpe honored Carmen Sardeña Fresco and Emilia Esteban Esteban; Iturriza recognized Antonio González Esteban; and Beti Gazteak paid tribute to Maite Saizar Gurrutxaga.
“"If the 'cuadrillas' (groups of friends) have their day during the festivities, why shouldn't we have ours?"
Juan Bautista Aranzabe 'Mate', secretary of the Iturriza association and a key figure behind the event, described the day as "very positive," noting the increasing participation and the joyful atmosphere.
