The socialist group in Legazpi has voiced significant concern regarding the difficulties of accessing housing in the municipality, particularly for young people who face major obstacles to becoming independent and obtaining decent homes.
To address this situation, and "maintaining the commitment to alleviate this problem," the party has proposed the construction of protected housing on the plot of land belonging to the old paper mill's parking area, which the town council recently purchased.

For the PSE-EE, this represents a "strategic opportunity," "especially to cater to young people, enabling them to develop their life projects in Legazpi with decent and quality housing." The socialists have stated that "we cannot allow the talent and future of our municipality to be forced to leave due to a lack of public offerings".
The proposal's objective is not merely to increase the number of homes but to do so "under a model of public management and affordable rent, ensuring that the recovered land directly benefits social welfare".

For his part, the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Denis Itxaso, argued that to effectively respond to the housing market situation, policies in this area must operate at two speeds: firstly, "with structural and medium-to-long-term measures aimed at fundamentally transforming access to housing"; and secondly, "by activating urgent actions capable of providing immediate responses to individuals and groups facing the greatest access difficulties".
The minister indicated that the Basque Government is promoting reforms and measures to streamline administrative procedures, thereby reducing urban planning timelines and accelerating housing construction. He also mentioned the creation of a "large land reserve," "influencing urban planning and introducing new figures for processing with preferential development projects." He also highlighted the commitment to industrialized construction to "improve efficiency and increase the pace of the construction sector" and the growing number of agreements with municipalities to facilitate land allocation and promote housing construction.
The PSE-EE has "reaffirmed its commitment to continue working to promote public policies that facilitate access to housing, especially among young people".
