Donostia Rugby Kluba and surrounding clubs have created Bateginik, a new union announced on June 8, 2026, to strengthen the future of rugby in Gipuzkoa.

Following the end of the Gipuzkoa Sortzen project, Bateginik Donostia Rugby Kluba is born, a new union announced on June 8, 2026. Although initially focused on Donostia's teams, this project adopts the essence of a unified Gipuzkoa team in its organization. This new structure creates a legally independent main team, where surrounding clubs, in this case those from Donostia, will act as affiliates, for both senior women's and men's teams.
The main senior teams will belong to Donostia Rugby taldea, while the second senior teams, the grassroots levels, and the schools will be part of the clubs forming the union. In this way, each club maintains its identity and trajectory, while a high-level senior team, both women's and men's, is being formed.

In my opinion, the urgent responsibility of the City Council, and perhaps also of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, would be to start with the "construction" of a suitable rugby stadium that Donostia and Gipuzkoa deserve.

The new team will feature Patrick Polidori as coach and sporting director, who has been a prolific coach for the men's senior team of Hernani for the past 17 years. His experience is seen as a guarantee of sporting success. Furthermore, the text discusses the need for a suitable rugby stadium for Donostia and Gipuzkoa, mentioning the proposal that Biarritz Olympique offered for the Anoeta Mini Stadium, maintaining the athletics structure and offering space for 10,000 spectators, as well as guaranteeing areas for potential sponsors.
