As is customary, the Aralar pasture opening festival will take place tomorrow, May 1st, in Larraitz. The day's events will commence at 10:00 AM, with a large attendance expected to enjoy the festive atmosphere, purchase local products, and observe the livestock grazing. A market will be set up, featuring an exhibition of animals (mares, sheep, rams, donkeys, cows, and goats), handicraft demonstrations, and the sale of local food products.
Music will also be a highlight, with performances by trikitilaris and pandero jotzailes Iker Sukia and Aritz Markinez at 11:00 AM. The official pasture opening will occur at 12:00 PM, when, after a rocket launch, the flocks of sheep and cows will ascend past the Larraitz gate, accompanied by the farmers.
Following the opening, and once the livestock are in the pastures, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional rural sports. Harri-jasotzaileak (stone lifters) Malen Morandeira and Hodei Iruretagoiena will participate, along with aizkolaris (log choppers) Jakes Iruretagoiena and Oihana Barrena. In the realm of bertsolaritza (improvised Basque verse), Maialen Akizu and Bixente Gorostidi will perform. A bus service will also be available.
On the same day, the associations Ipuztar Nafarrak and Nabarralde will commemorate Ausa-Gaztelu Day. This event aims to recall the division of Euskal Herria by Castile in the year 1200, at the site where a castle of the kingdom of Navarre once stood. At the gathering in Larraitz, a tribute will be paid to the Basque-Navarrese, both at Gaztelu itself and in Larraitz, in front of the Oroitplaka. The celebration will conclude with a meal.
