Eskuernaga, known as the town in Rioja Alavesa with the most wineries per inhabitant in the world, is fully prepared to host the fifth edition of the Villabuena Wine Fest. This enotourism event will transform the village into a large square dedicated to wine, with the participation of 18 local wineries, three hospitality establishments, and various gastronomic spaces, allowing the public to enjoy a full day exploring its streets with a glass in hand.
The Plaza del Árbol de Gernika will be the central stage for the activities, which will kick off at 11:00 AM with a display of Basque dances by the local group Kaskabar and a welcome toast. This year, for the first time, the municipality will have an ambassador, whose mission is to promote its wines and essence to a wider audience. According to the organizers, this event is not just about wine, but also about celebrating the town's identity and pride.
Following this, and until 3:30 PM, the winery stands area will be inaugurated, offering an opportunity to discover wine from within, in direct contact with its producers. This area will be complemented by food trucks from Croketak and Melosa, as well as guest producers from Laguardia, such as Quesería Moraita and Maturana Cream, offering their artisan ice creams. Additionally, the bars in the Plaza and Kiko, along with the Hotel Viura, will offer special pintxos for the occasion.
To access these tastings, tickets must be purchased, as capacity is limited and previous editions have sold out. Tickets can be acquired until Wednesday, May 29th, on the Villabuena Wine Fest website at a special price of 30 euros (they will cost 35 euros at the box office). The ticket includes a glass and glass holder, three pintxos at local bars, and nine ezkurras (the event's currency) to exchange for wines, as well as a technological gymkhana, live music, and a Dj Gotzon session that will extend until 9:00 PM.
The ticket also grants access to the gastronomic area, as well as to the wine tastings and talks that will take place from 11:30 AM on the terrace of the emblematic Casa de los Diezmos. Four proposals will be offered to explore Villabuena from different angles: freshness, tradition, new trends, and terroir, guided by experts and with a carefully selected range of wines. Spaces are limited, and reservations will be required when collecting the glass.
