The Mungia City Council has initiated the renovation of the Trobika footbridge, aiming to restore this pedestrian connection over the Garbigune stream with a new, safer, more accessible, and durable infrastructure.
The current footbridge had been closed to pedestrian traffic for over two years due to significant structural deterioration. Technical studies determined that the existing damage necessitated a complete replacement to ensure adequate safety conditions.
The project, with an investment exceeding 104,000 euros, involves the construction of a new footbridge approximately 12 meters in length to replace the current wooden structure. The new infrastructure will feature a more resistant construction solution adapted to current needs, enhancing both safety and durability.
The works are estimated to last two months. Today, the work area has been fenced off and delimited, and next week preliminary site preparation will begin, including readying the intervention zone and selective pruning of existing vegetation.
The start of the works was conditioned by necessary procedures due to the footbridge's location over a riverbed and the requirement for corresponding authorizations from URA (Basque Water Agency), a process that has extended the initially planned timelines.
If projections are met, the new footbridge will be completed by late November, thus restoring this pedestrian crossing in adequate safety conditions for the public.
Furthermore, as part of the City Council's commitment to the conservation and maintenance of municipal infrastructures, an inspection of the condition of 16 bridges in the municipality has been launched, with a budget of 42,592 euros, to detect potential deficiencies and plan future improvement actions.
