The restoration of Butrón Castle (Gatika) is entering its final stage. At first glance, the iconic structure already appears brighter, but the works, which began in 2024 and are set to conclude this coming summer, involve much more than a simple facelift.
The tasks, carried out under the direction of Verónica Quintanilla, an architect specializing in heritage restoration, have allowed for «a comprehensive approach to the monument's conservation needs», as stated by the developer. The technical team has focused the intervention on the structural resolution of pathologies detected in previous studies, especially those linked to deficient rainwater drainage, identified as the main cause of the building's deterioration.

The project, developed «under criteria of minimal intervention and maximum respect for the building's historical configuration», is currently in the interior finishing phase, following the completion of structural and material conservation work. The fortress was acquired by a Russian couple at the end of 2021, who paid four million euros to the developer Inbisa. Initially, it was planned that the restoration works would be open to visitors for an entrance fee of 12 euros, but these guided tours never took place.
