The Mendialdea Cuadrilla, also known as Montaña Alavesa, has scheduled a total of seven new guided routes for April and May, aiming to showcase the region's impressive natural heritage.

The first of these excursions will take place this Sunday, April 19, at 10:00 AM, heading to the council of Atauri, in Arraia-Maeztu. Participants will explore the depths of Mina Lucía and the 19th-century mining village of Gustaldapa - San Ildefonso, which is part of the 39-kilometer pedestrian and cycling route developed by the Provincial Council of Álava to highlight the industrial past of the region.
Additionally, the Asfaltokia interpretation center, located in the old and restored Atauri station, on the Vasco Navarro Railway Greenway, is being prepared for its inauguration this spring.
The second route, scheduled for April 26, will depart from the walled town of Antoñana (Kanpezu) and proceed to Aguaqué, a beautiful waterfall of the Sabando river, hidden in a beech forest, accessible via a comfortable circular route of about four kilometers.
Throughout May, five more routes will be undertaken: the Korres ravine (Arraia-Maeztu) on the 3rd; the lime kilns and charcoal burner route of Bernedo on the 10th; Mojón Largo in Alda (Valle de Arana) on the 17th; the asphalt mines of Loza (Peñacerrada) on the 24th; and the path to Villaverde from Lagrán on the 31st. This will complete visits to all six municipalities that make up the Mendialdea Cuadrilla.
Those interested in these routes, all of which will begin at 10:00 AM, must register during the week prior to each proposal, from Monday to Thursday, by calling the Mendialdea Cuadrilla at 945 40 54 24, as places are limited.
Separately, the regional entity of Montaña Alavesa has deemed unsuitable the sole bid submitted for the 122,789.28 euro (VAT included) tender to manage the regional tourism office and the interpretation center of the Vasco Navarro Railway Greenwa y, both located in three train carriages at the old Antoñana station. The bid was rejected due to a lack of documentation proving compliance with minimum requirements. These services will be expanded with a bar, whose operation is included in the same contract, aiming to offer a complementary service to users of the Greenway, with a focus on local products and hours compatible with the tourist use of the space. The bar will be named El trenico, in honor of the narrow-gauge line that connected Estella (Navarra) and Bergara (Gipuzkoa) between 1927 and 1967, passing through Álava.
