The forest fire in the Galarreta mountain, located in Zalduondo, has reignited following a sudden shift in wind direction and high temperatures, spreading beyond the established containment perimeter.

Although the fire, which started last Friday due to a lightning strike, was previously under control, the dry terrain and weather conditions caused the flames to spread to other pine forests during the early hours.
The Provincial Council of Álava and emergency services have strengthened the operation. Currently, about 50 people are working on the ground, including firefighters from Agurain, Iruña Oka, Espejo, and Kanpezu, as well as forest brigades and reinforcements from other regions.
Containment efforts involve the use of heavy machinery and manual tools. Given the rugged terrain, aerial support is crucial; helicopters from Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, and Navarra are involved, alongside units from La Rioja and two water-dropping aircraft.
