The second edition of the 'Exploration Walks' initiative will take place in the Elexalde neighborhood of Zaratamo on September 25th, at 8:00 PM, in the town square. This event is inspired by Jane Jacobs' urban perspective, aiming to analyze neighborhood spaces and reflect on daily life.
The first edition was held on May 8th in Arkotxa, organized by the Zaratamo Equality Commission with the support of the City Council. Similar to the previous edition, the goal is to identify dangerous and safe points in the neighborhood, as well as spaces that facilitate daily life and their past conditions.
The Zaratamo City Council explained that, "starting from Jane Jacobs' viewpoint, and guided by the residents, we will analyze different corners of the neighborhood." The aim is to improve safety, intimacy, and quality of life in the neighborhood's spaces, promoting reflection on urban planning practices.
The City Council intends to organize this initiative in other neighborhoods of Zaratamo, promoting participatory urbanism and considering citizens' opinions.
Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urban theorist and activist, best known for her work 'The Death and Life of Great American Cities'. She critically examined urban planning and emphasized the importance of public space.
