The Portugalete City Council and Oroituz Kultur Elkartea have signed a new collaboration agreement to promote historical memory recovery activities in 2026.

The Portugalete City Council and Oroituz Kultur Elkartea have signed a new collaboration agreement to support the association's program of activities in the field of historical memory. This agreement stems from the Framework Document on Public Policies for the Recovery of Historical Memory in Portugalete, unanimously approved by the Corporation's Plenary Session on December 28, 2017, following a process of reflection and dialogue.
This agreement, between the City Council and Oroituz Kultur Elkartea, materializes a municipal economic support of €6,597.12 for the program of activities the association will carry out in 2026, representing 96% of the total cost. The value of the activity is much greater thanks to the voluntary work of the people who make up Oroituz, who organized 19 activities with over 1,830 participants in 2025.
Currently, Oroituz Kultur Elkartea is undergoing a change in its board of directors, with Sandor Sarria set to become the new president. The commitment and dedication of the former president, Esther Urbina Amezaga, have been recognized and thanked.
Among the actions included in this agreement for 2026 are: film screenings such as “La Conspiración”, “Berri Ona / La Buena Nueva”, “El 47”, and “Salvador (Puig Antich)”, followed by discussions; the conference “La represión de la homosexualidad durante el franquismo”; the exhibition “50 años de lucha y memoria”; the presentation of the book “27 de septiembre 1975, los últimos fusilados de la dictadura franquista”; the restoration of a memorial mural; a tribute on the 95th anniversary of the proclamation of the II Republic; and the talk "Bebés robados. Impunidad en democracia".
Additionally, the exhibition “Infancia en guerra” and screenings for schools will be held, the photographic exhibition “Hondamendia / Destrucción” about the bombings suffered by Portugalete with guided tours, a Popular Tribute on the 89th anniversary of the city's capture, and conferences on "Represión y tortura bajo el franquismo" and "Exhumaciones de fosas comunes en Euskadi", as well as on "Represión penal sobre las mujeres de Sestao y alrededores".
