The Ertzaintza has arrested a 20-year-old man in Gallarta after he stabbed another individual in Muskiz early Saturday morning following an argument. The victim, aged 22 and of Spanish nationality, had to be evacuated to the Cruces hospital for treatment of his injuries.
As reported by the Basque Department of Security, the incident occurred at 00:40 this Saturday, when an argument between two young men resulted in one stabbing the other.
Alerted to the incident, several police units were dispatched to the scene. There, a young man was found lying face down, surrounded by people applying pressure to a bleeding wound on his back. Witnesses told officers that the assault occurred in the context of a dispute between the victim and an acquaintance, who attacked him with a sharp object in the lower back area.
While requesting medical personnel, one of the officers found a handleless knife with traces of blood near the victim, who was eventually transported to Cruces for medical attention.
The perpetrator of the assault, aged 20, had fled the scene towards the festival grounds. After conducting various inquiries about the suspect, a patrol located him hours later in the Gallarta neighborhood of Abanto-Zierbana and proceeded with his arrest, accused of a lesiones (bodily harm) offense. He was taken to police facilities and, once processing is complete, will be brought before a judge. The Ertzaintza continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
