A simulated aquatic accident occurred in the Bilbao estuary, involving three people falling from a boat and resulting in various injuries and consequences.

The Aquatic Section of the Ertzaintza's Surveillance and Rescue Unit participated this Friday afternoon in a simulated aquatic accident with victims, carried out in the Bilbao estuary. This action's primary goal is to showcase the response capacity and coordination of aquatic rescue services, terrestrial medical teams, and assistance teams, as part of psychology workshops held on May 14th and 15th in the Biscay capital.
The exercise began at 4:00 PM, lasting for an hour and taking place in the area of the Paseo de El Arenal adjacent to the Bilbao estuary. The scenario simulated an aquatic accident where three individuals fell into the water from a boat, leading to various health issues for one, the disappearance of another, and the death of the third, while also causing psychological distress to onlookers.
The objectives of the drill were to visualize the response capacity of emergency teams from DYA Bizkaia, UVR Ertzaintza, and the Psychological Intervention Group in Emergencies (GIPEC) in the presented scenario, and to evaluate the effectiveness of established procedures and protocols. This included identifying potential areas for improvement in coordination and resource management, and analyzing the coordination and working capacity with the involved institutions.
