Agents from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) conducted searches on Thursday at the headquarters of Tubos Reunidos in Bilbao and Amurrio, as well as at the SEPI offices in Madrid, as part of an investigation into the nearly 113 million euro rescue granted in 2021.

In Bilbao, the search, which began at 9:00 AM, lasted for nearly 10 hours. It was a discreet operation, with no police agents or vehicles visible outside the building, involving approximately 7 agents who left with several boxes. The search in Amurrio, however, lasted only about half an hour.
Company sources informed COPE Euskadi of their "total willingness to cooperate with justice." They added that a press release would be sent in the afternoon to inform about the events and the company's stance, and they sought to convey a sense of calm amidst the ongoing searches.
The searches were ordered by Judge Santiago Pedraz as part of a secret proceeding within the "Leire case."

Tubos Reunidos was rescued by the Spanish government in 2021. A rescue of almost 113 million euros that is now the focus of the investigation because the UCO indicates that the Leire network allegedly mediated to accelerate that rescue.

For Tubos Reunidos, 112.8 million euros were approved for the rescue in July 2021. According to information from the summary, alleged meetings between the network and the management of Tubos Reunidos are mentioned, which concluded with a payment of 40,000 euros from the company to Vicente Fernández, former president of SEPI.
