Not even yesterday afternoon's heavy downpour could dampen the start of the third edition of the Mus Championship. Gathered at the iconic Casino Bilbao Luckia and presented by José Manuel Monje, this new tournament was inaugurated on Wednesday, April 29, with qualifying rounds extending until June 7.
With the "same enthusiasm" as on day one, the organization thanked the support of four fundamental pillars: Fournier, IQOS, Basarana, and Mus Stars. The championship's reward is enticing, with 5,000 euros in prizes, a txapela for the winning pair, and access to other events such as the Mus Pre-World Cup for Basque Collectivities. Nevertheless, many pairs participate simply for the pleasure of playing.
“"It is a game for everyone and by everyone."
A representative from Mus Stars expressed optimism about this edition, stating it "could surpass last year's participation." He also highlighted the tournament's role as an opportunity for bars and txokos, especially in Araba and Gipuzkoa, fostering a meeting space around the game.
Beyond competing for prizes, the championship celebrates the spirit of Mus: good times, making new friends, and leaving with high spirits, regardless of victory. This initiative aims "to prevent us from losing something as intrinsically ours as Mus," noted a commercial and marketing manager from Casino Bilbao Luckia. He emphasized that Mus is experiencing a boom, with more and more young people encouraged to play and compete for the txapela.
The championship will remain open for new venues and pairs until June 4. Any person or venue wishing to participate in this initiative can register through the official website. Mus knows no age, gender, or category: only strategy, chance, and camaraderie. For those seeking the perfect excuse to enjoy afternoons of fellowship and even compete for prizes, the answer is here.
