The new terrace ordinance in Bilbao, which now includes street musicians, has sparked controversy. In response, the Sos Bilboko Kale Artistak entity, formed a few months ago, will take to the streets to express its opposition to this regulation. The period for associations and the general public to submit their allegations is currently open.
“"We are currently drafting allegations and collecting signatures."
The association has set a calendar of concentrations to inform the public about their situation. The first will be this Saturday at 12:30 PM in Arriaga Square. On May 15, they will gather at the City Hall at 12:00 PM, and on May 23, they have called for a demonstration at 6:30 PM, starting from Moyúa Square.
Sos Bilboko Kale Artistak insists on its stance to negotiate with the City Council regarding the situation of street musicians in the Vizcayan capital. Representatives of the entity stated that the City Council contacted them last week for a meeting and they are trying to find a date, but they regret that “no one has explained anything to us.”
“"We only want to present our point of view because residents have been heard, but neither the voice of the artists nor our association has been heard."
In light of this contact with the local administration, the association assures that it will use the planned concentrations to “inform” citizens about their situation and the changes implied by the new regulation. These changes include the use of loudspeakers up to 70 decibels, the formation of groups of more than three artists, and “an Aste Nagusia that welcomes us as it has done until now.”
