A municipal group has announced that it will take new measures against the Sopela City Council after its reconsideration appeal regarding the urbanization works for the expansion of the Iberre institute was dismissed. The group's spokesperson stated that they will file a new contentious-administrative appeal.
“"They have dismissed our reconsideration appeal with a legal maneuver."
The spokesperson emphasized that they do not understand the Council's "attitude" and affirmed that they feel "obliged to file a contentious-administrative appeal to defend the rights of Sopela residents." In this regard, it was recalled that in the plenary session of July 2023, the governing team attempted to modify the subsidiary norms for the expansion of Iberre, but as it was not done correctly, the municipal group filed a reconsideration appeal.
According to the group, the plots for the expansion of the center came from the Abaro Partial Plan, and within four years, they would have had to pay for them as developable land, even though it should have been free, as it was essentially an expropriation. Furthermore, it was noted that in January 2024, the Department of Education sent a document to the Council urging it to modify the norms for Zipiriñe, Abaro, and the Iberrota road, which has not been done. Therefore, an institute cannot be built on top of a road, and public money cannot be allocated to a project that should be paid for by the landowners.
“"They have had three years to make the modifications and have not done so; they will know why."
