A 21-year-old Basque pelotari from Bilbao and a woman from Granada had a notable date on 'First Dates', sharing cultural exchanges and mutual interest.

A special folklore-themed episode of 'First Dates' featured a memorable encounter between Markel, a 21-year-old pelotari from Bilbao, and Daniela from Granada. Arriving with a traditional txapela, Markel discussed Basque pelota with host Carlos Sobera, highlighting pala as the most challenging modality.
The young Basque man also performed an aurresku dance before his date. While he initially mentioned he wouldn't have minded dating a Basque woman, he later described Daniela as "spectacular".
The date concluded with a dance lesson exchange. Daniela attempted to teach Markel sevillanas, with limited success, while he introduced her to the aurresku. Despite comparisons to '8 apellidos vascos', the couple showed interest in a second date.
This is not the first time a Basque participant has garnered attention on the popular dating show. Amaia, a nursing assistant from Bilbao, went viral in February 2024 for her self-appreciation, stating, "What I like most is my butt." She mentioned having suitors but being "a bit peculiar".
Her date, José Ángel from Galicia, described himself as analytical and laid-back. A humorous moment occurred when he forgot Amaia's name, apologizing profusely. She took it in stride, admitting she also struggled with his name. They both handled the situation with humor.
However, José later made another slip-up, calling the woman "Amalia" and "Amelia." Amaia had to clarify the origin of her Basque name, explaining it is pronounced "Amaia," not "Amaya."
'First Dates' remains one of Cuatro's longest-running and most successful daily programs, aiming to help singles find their ideal partners. While not every experiment leads to romance, the show consistently delivers entertaining moments like those in this episode.
