Osakidetza has finalized the improvement works at the Zuazo health center, part of the OSI Barakaldo-Sestao. The project's primary goal was to enhance building accessibility by relocating the main entrance. Additionally, the administrative area has been expanded and renovated to align with Osakidetza's corporate strategy for a more accessible, comprehensive, and personalized care model.
With an investment of 572,600 euros, the improvements involved enclosing the porticoes that housed the main entrance, nearly doubling the space for the administrative area. The center's main entrance has been moved to an adjacent street to improve user accessibility.
For the renovation and modernization of the administrative area, aspects such as lighting and acoustic comfort were carefully considered, using materials that provide a welcoming, pleasant, and modern environment. To this end, traditional counters have been replaced with desk-based service points, allowing users to sit and receive more personalized and humanized attention.
This initiative is part of the Basque Government's Health Infrastructure and Equipment Program 2025-2032, which has a budget of 1.6 billion euros for the construction, expansion, and renovation of Osakidetza's healthcare network.
This commitment to building modern and accessible infrastructure is aligned with the commitments of the Basque Health Pact. Its strategic line on equipment prioritizes projects for the design, rehabilitation, and construction of new centers that effectively meet the real needs of citizens, alongside the commitment to ensure territorial equity and incorporate environmental criteria and efficiency in the management of Euskadi's public resources.
The Zuazo Health Center is one of ten primary care centers within the OSI Barakaldo-Sestao. It currently serves the 17,554 residents of the Zuazo and Arteagabeitia neighborhoods. Its service portfolio includes Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Nursing, in addition to standard administrative and citizen service tasks.
