A total of 120 municipal workers' committees in the Basque Autonomous Community have joined the strike call, demanding improved working conditions and the renewal of their collective agreement, as reported by the unions.

Unions have indicated that the strike call has received significant support in major cities and towns across the Basque Autonomous Community, including Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Donostia, Barakaldo, and Errenteria. Furthermore, in municipalities such as Hernani, Arrasate, and Bergara, workers' assemblies have decided to close town halls on the day of the strike.
In Getxo, the workers' committee has approved a motion and joined the strike; they will also hold a rally in front of the town hall. In Erandio, Leioa, and Sopela, the call has also received broad support, and workers will demand the renewal of the Udalhitz collective agreement.

"Negotiations are progressing very slowly, and concrete content is lacking."

The main reason for these mobilizations is the precarization of working conditions for municipal employees. According to unions, they have gone 16 years without renewing the Udalhitz collective agreement. In this situation, they have denounced the loss of purchasing power and the acceptance of cuts imposed by the Government of Madrid.
The last negotiation table was held on May 7, but according to the ELA and LAB unions, the proposals from Eudel and political parties (EAJ, EH Bildu, PSE-EE, and independents) are still insufficient. Through the strike, the organizers hope to accelerate negotiations and achieve a comprehensive proposal that will resolve the long-standing conflict.
