The municipal assembly of Leioa has unanimously approved the current mayor's candidacy for a third term in next year's elections. This means the mayor will aim for a third legislature, reaffirming a commitment to addressing citizen needs and improving their quality of life.
“"I believe in useful, close, and listening politics. Governing means being on the streets, understanding what people need, and working every day to improve their lives."
The 48-year-old mayor, a primary school teacher on leave from Claret Askartza, began a career in the Leioa City Council in 2013 as a councilor for Urban Planning, Housing, Public Works and Services, Mobility, and Environment. In 2019, the mayor took office for the first time, succeeding the previous incumbent. According to statements, Leioa has made significant progress in recent years, but the administration is not complacent and has clear next steps to continue working with the same seriousness and commitment.
During this term, several important projects have been developed, such as the Arriena park, and others have been completed, including the Special Plan for Reform and Interior Rehabilitation of Lamiako-Txopoeta. Additionally, the government team is advancing on the Lamiako boulevard and managing the urban regeneration of Pinueta and the construction of a new sports center.
