Leioa is set to celebrate its San Juan festivities, taking place from June 19 to 24. The extensive program includes concerts, contests, shows, family events, and traditional activities, turning each day into a celebration.
On Friday, June 19, events will kick off at 12:00 PM with 'Bailamos con la Tercera Edad' in Sakoneta. In the afternoon, the txosnas will open, followed by the Txupinazo and Reading of the Proclamation by MARI PEPA Y ARLOTE at the Town Hall. Afterwards, there will be a parade of cuadrillas and various musical and entertainment performances, including those by HORAS MUERTAS, MIRUA, IANIRA - IÑIGO, ASIER BILBAO SHOW, and NEOMAK – OXABI.
Saturday, June 20, is the 'CUADRILLAS' PAJAMA DAY'. Throughout the morning, tortilla and sandwich contests, traditional Basque sports (herri kirolak), and family workshops will be held, including the IKUSI (LEIOA) MAKUSI painting workshop. In the afternoon, there will be children's activities, dance performances, and musical acts by the BANDA DE MÚSICA DE LEIOA and various groups. In the evening, magic shows and concerts will take place, such as those by LOS NIÑOS JESÚS – MANEL FUENTES & THE SPRING´S TEAM BAND and ALARMA MOREA – ILBERRI.
On Sunday, June 21, the 'AURRESKU ANTEIGLESIA' will be celebrated. In the morning, there will be a mass and children's activities. At midday, various contests and musical performances will be held, including one by ANGRY LOVERS. In the afternoon, there will be children's activities and a party for the elderly. At 7:00 PM, bertsolaris (improvised Basque singers) will perform, and in the evening, there will be concerts, including performances by DALE KALIGULA – XIBEROOTS – MALOA BROTHERS and ORQUESTA VULKANO SHOW.
On Monday, June 22, there will be children's activities and dance classes. In the afternoon, children's workshops and musical performances will be held, featuring XABI ABURRUZAGA. In the evening, concerts will be presented, such as those by BASAKI – OREKKA ERROMERIA.
On Tuesday, June 23, the San Juan Night will be celebrated. In the morning, there will be children's activities and a Zumba session. In the afternoon, 'Caza Zorro' games for children and adults, and pelota finals will take place. In the evening, the show 'THE ONE & the one', concerts by local bands, and the San Juan Night spectacle will be presented, followed by a bonfire and fireworks. At midnight, an akelarre (witchcraft gathering) and romería (folk festival) will commence.
On Wednesday, June 24, San Juan Day will be celebrated. In the morning, there will be a mass and children's activities. In the afternoon, a children's chocolate tasting and musical performances will be held, including one by LOS CINCO BILBAINOS. At 8:00 PM, the awards ceremony for the cuadrillas will take place, and in the evening, the txosnas will close, marking the end of the festivities.
Throughout the festivities, a GUNE MOREA space will be available for information and prevention, and a free TAXI service will operate for individuals feeling vulnerable from midnight to 6:00 AM.
