This initiative, promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, seeks to build on the success of the spring and summer leagues. The previous two phases accumulated over a million active kilometers, with Loiu being the leading municipality in the summer league, featuring 5,301 participants who covered 537,005 kilometers.
The autumn league will reset the counters to zero, giving all municipalities an equal chance to climb the rankings. To join Leioa's team, any individual over 14 years old with a connection to the municipality can register. Those who have previously participated will not need to re-register; continuing to log their activity will suffice.
Participation is free. Interested individuals should download the Wellk application, sign up, and select Leioa's team in the Kirolur challenges section. Activity can be recorded via the phone's GPS or by syncing with applications and devices such as Strava, Garmin, Fitbit, Health Connect, and Apple Health.
Effort can be rewarded. Those who achieve at least 300 activity points will be eligible to receive Kirolur Challenge merchandise, while supplies last for Leioa. Furthermore, if the municipality ranks among the top performers, it will receive funds to purchase equipment for local sports clubs.
Kirolur organizes three leagues annually, and the autumn league will be the final opportunity to add kilometers and points to the 2026 standings. Results from the previous two phases have shown that even small municipalities can reach top positions, as the ranking system uses a weighting based on population.
