The Lagun Onak team achieved a significant victory yesterday at the Sarriena football field in Leioa, defeating the local team 2-3, which allows them to qualify for the promotion playoffs to the Spanish Segunda Federación.

The match was highly contested, and Lagun Onak practically needed to win to reach the final league playoffs. With two goals in extra time, the team achieved a great feat, overturning the score and securing the victory.
In the first half, Leioa took the initiative, but Lagun Onak created more danger. The team took an early lead thanks to a goal by Unax Odriozola in the 11th minute. After a quick counterattack, Odriozola dribbled past the goalkeeper and sent the ball into the net with his left foot. With that goal, the team was already qualified for the playoffs, but they did not step back. Furthermore, Jon Sorazu was on the verge of scoring the second goal, but he did not see Jakes Aranbarri who was alone behind him.
In the second half, the team also maintained its intensity, and Sorazu was again close to making it 0-2, but his shot went directly to the goalkeeper. After that play, Leioa woke up and scored the equalizer in the 64th minute. A few minutes later, the home team turned the game around after a penalty committed by goalkeeper Iker Bastida, which they did not miss from the eleven meters.
Given the situation, the coach took a risk and brought in attacking players from the bench, and the move paid off perfectly. In a few minutes, the team received two rewards. In the 92nd minute, from a tight cross by Beñat Leiza from the left wing, a local player touched the ball with the back of his head while trying to clear it, and it went directly off the post and into the net, making it 2-2. Finally, in the 97th minute, the big reward arrived: after an excellent cross by Imanol Alberdi from the left, Jon Galarza brilliantly headed the ball to give the team the victory.
Thanks to the three points obtained by Lagun Onak, the team will be able to start the path to the promotion playoffs. The Basque teams of the Third Federation will play their qualifiers among themselves in the coming weeks. Thus, Lagun Onak will play the first qualifier against Derio, starting next week at home. The team that is superior in the first and second leg matches will face the winner of the Leioa-Touring qualifier. The winner of that phase will face the winner of the first phase of Castilla-La Mancha. The team has good precedents in the matches played against Derio this season: they won 3-0 at Garmendipe and prevailed 0-1 in Derio.
Meanwhile, the women's team suffered a tough defeat yesterday afternoon at the Cesar Benito football field in Donostia, losing 7-1 against Intxaurdi. The team conceded four goals before halftime, and it was impossible for them to achieve anything valuable thereafter. June Casina scored Lagun Onak's only goal. The women's team has only two matchdays left to finish the league, and next week they will play their last home game of the season, against Orioko. They are in the middle of the standings and have nothing at stake regarding classification.
