This project has given hundreds of students the opportunity to engage with music, participating in performances at the Arriaga Theatre, the Euskalduna Palace, or the Bilbao Arena. Now, a congress that annually gathers educators and music professionals has taken notice of this initiative and invited them to participate in a meeting.
The Network of Educational and Social Concert Organizers (ROCE) will hold the congress Música y salud. Los sonidos que cuidan on the 14th and 15th of this month. The event aims to reflect on the potential of musical practices to contribute to physical, emotional, and social well-being, both individually and collectively. According to the organizers, the focus will be on how music can act as a tool for care, support, and transformation in various social contexts.
“"Through music, the objective is to help train citizens who are capable of integrating into the community without losing their identity, to avoid marginal attitudes or affective deficiencies that can lead to exclusion or school failure."
Over two days, a program combining presentations, dialogue tables, experiential workshops, idea labs, and concerts will be developed. This space will serve to share experiences and learn about inspiring projects carried out in hospitals, educational centers, and community environments. All of this is aimed at strengthening the role of music as a tool for care, inclusion, and social cohesion.
One of the projects to be showcased is the one carried out by the Bilbao Choral Society with Eskolan Kantari. The musical group launched it ten years ago, focusing on educational centers that lack a choir or musical activity. The society's teachers travel to these facilities to teach choir classes, which also include a social dimension. The creator of the initiative and the manager of the Bilbao Choral Society will be responsible for presenting the experience on May 14th, starting at 5:00 PM.
