The Upo Mendi Pelota School in Zaratamo has opened registration for the new academic year. Children aged five and above can participate in hand pelota (Mondays and Wednesdays) and pala (Tuesdays and Thursdays). In other news, Zaratamo's pelotari Oier Elorz Casado (born 2007) will play a hand doubles match at the Galdakao festivities on September 12th at the Kurtzea fronton. This event will offer a chance to see players from the Basque Selection. Elorz and his partner Eñaut Lizeaga from Astigarraga will face the duo of Beñat Azketa from Beasain and Aingeru Bernaola from Mañaria.
In Zaratamo, last Sunday, the Ertzaintza arrested a 35-year-old individual in an abandoned factory in the Arkotxa neighborhood after an assault on another man with a utility knife. The incident occurred in the morning, and the victim sustained an abdominal wound. The assailant was apprehended and brought before a judge.
The Zaratamo festivities took place in the Elexalde neighborhood from August 7th to 11th. The events included concerts, children's activities, a communal meal, hand pelota matches, dancing, and various competitions. Photographs taken by residents have also been shared.
Sports activities in Zaratamo are set to commence in October. Registration will be open from September 2nd to 18th, available in person at the libraries and municipal offices in Arkotxa and Elexalde, or online. Sessions such as Zumba, Pilates, total fitness, and functional training will be offered in Elexalde, Arkotxa, and Moiordin. Payments will be processed quarterly.
Furthermore, the Aztarnak Muralismo association will host the 'Mila Koloredun Jaia' (Thousand-Colored Festival) for the second time in the Arkotxa neighborhood of Zaratamo on September 12th. The event will feature the creation of a participatory mural, screen printing and graffiti workshops, and an exhibition by 16 Basque grafiteros.
