The Mayor of Irun, Cristina Laborda, accompanied by the Education delegate, visited the Eguzkitza School this morning to officially open the 2026/27 school year. Members of the school's management team and teaching staff also participated in the visit. The mayor spent time with some students to learn about their concerns and wish them a happy start to the new academic year. She also highlighted the teachers' work in guiding and supporting students in their academic journey.
The mayor emphasized that "education plays a fundamental role in our society. Therefore, within our responsibilities, we make significant economic investments each year so that Irun has adequate, safe, and modern facilities that allow students to fully develop in their studies. Our clear directive is: no one is left behind, and all students have access to quality public education."
As is customary at the start of each school year, Laborda indicated her intention to continue these annual visits to other schools in the locality, sharing the beginning of the academic calendar with the educational community.
€450,000 invested in school improvements. During the summer break, the Irun City Council allocated €450,000 for various improvements in six schools (Elatzeta, Dunboa, Belaskoenea, Toki Alai, Lekaenea, and Txingudi Ikastola), including patio adaptations, bathroom renovations, and room painting.
Over 11,300 students enrolled. Irun has approximately thirty non-university centers (public, subsidized, and private), with a total of over 11,300 students. The educational offerings cover Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, Languages, and Adult Education.
'Erosi eta Ikasi Irunen' campaign. The Education and City Promotion departments remind that the call for aid for families to purchase school supplies at Irun shops, 'Erosi eta Ikasi Irunen', will remain open until September 30th. This edition has a budget of €200,000.
