The events date back to last March, when, according to the complaint, members of the Antifa Ultras group allegedly accessed the vicinity of the temple and vandalized the building, which is considered to be of high historical and artistic value and a significant part of Bilbao's heritage.
The complaining foundation asserts that the alleged perpetrators themselves disseminated the attack through social media, which, in their view, demonstrates an intention to amplify the impact of the assault and foster a climate of hostility towards the Christian faith and its symbols.
“"These are not isolated incidents, but organized and publicly disseminated actions. The aim is to intimidate Christians and create a climate of hostility that we cannot allow. Justice must act firmly against these Christianophobic attacks."
The complaint attributes to those responsible a crime of damages and another against historical heritage, also raising the aggravating circumstance of discrimination on religious grounds, considering that the attack was specifically directed against a Catholic temple due to its religious nature.
For her part, the judge considers that the reported facts could constitute a crime, and has therefore agreed to initiate proceedings with the aim of clarifying what happened and identifying the alleged perpetrators.
