Ertzaintza officers have arrested a 33-year-old woman of European origin in Getxo, accused of involvement in a robbery that occurred on March 12th. The suspect allegedly approached an elderly woman and stole a gold watch from her using the 'affectionate hug' method.
An off-duty officer apprehended the arrested woman yesterday afternoon, accompanied by a man, as they were attempting to use the same technique in Getxo.
The officer became suspicious of the couple's behavior: while the man, from inside a vehicle, tried to distract an elderly male, the woman approached the elderly lady to check if she was wearing any valuable jewelry or a watch.
After observing the situation, the officer contacted the Getxo Ertzain-etxea (police station) to dispatch a patrol. Upon realizing they were being watched, the woman got into the car, and they attempted to flee.
A search operation organized by the Ertzaintza led to the vehicle being located and intercepted in the town of Barakaldo. There, its two occupants were identified: a 33-year-old male and a 32-year-old female, both of European origin.
At that moment, it was confirmed that the woman was under investigation as a suspect in a robbery with violence and injuries registered on March 12th in Getxo. The accused had approached and stolen a gold watch using the 'affectionate hug' method from a 75-year-old Spanish national, who sustained an injury.
Officers proceeded to arrest the 33-year-old woman, accusing her of robbery with violence, and opened investigation proceedings against the man, her accomplice, for the same offense.
