The Getxo City Council has concluded its winter campaign for the renewal and maintenance of urban trees, with 861 new trees planted and over 4,400 specimens conditioned across streets, parks, and green areas of the municipality. However, some of the planned interventions will have to wait several more months to be completed.

Among the pending tasks is the intervention on Acacias street, where the renewal of 23 units was scheduled. The Council has decided to postpone this action to the next fiscal year to better coordinate planning and align it with other urban services. Additionally, the conditioning of 54 tree pits that are not yet ready for new plantings remains to be finalized.

These tasks are complemented by the progressive relocation of several conifer specimens that are currently experiencing adaptation issues in areas lacking sufficient irrigation. The local government plans to move them to locations with better water conditions, primarily around Venancio and other spots where punctual replacements will occur.

Furthermore, the planting of approximately twenty small-sized trees is planned for planters and urban spaces in Miramar, Andrés Isasi, and Bilbao streets, actions through which the Council aims to continue expanding shaded areas in high-traffic zones.

Meanwhile, during the campaign conducted in recent months, trees have been replaced on sidewalks and urban alignments, old ones removed, and new areas of native forest created with species such as oaks, beeches, holm oaks, and chestnut trees. Pruning and maintenance work has also been carried out on thousands of specimens to enhance safety. One of the municipal plan's priority axes remains the creation of future urban climate refuges. In fact, 754 trees have undergone specific treatments to promote the development of wider canopies and generate new shaded areas in response to the increase in extreme heat episodes.
