Luka Remiro, a Basque activist, has reported mistreatment by Israeli soldiers following his detention during a humanitarian mission to Gaza.

Luka Remiro, an activist from the Basque delegation on an international humanitarian mission to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip, has reported being detained by Israel i military forces in international waters. He also described mistreatment allegedly inflicted by Ertzaintza officers upon his arrival at Loiu airport.
In an interview with Antxeta Irratia, Remiro detailed the physical and psychological abuse experienced during his captivity. He stated that they were crammed into containers for hours, subjected to beatings, electric shocks from taser guns and electrodes, doused with cold water, and denied sleep.

"If we Europeans are treated like this, how will they treat the Palestinians, whom they don't even consider human beings?"

Remiro suggested this question answers itself, implying Israeli military forces have impunity to act against Palestinians. The Gaza conflict, though overshadowed by events in Venezuela and Iran, remains a latent crisis. Since the October 2025 truce, over 900 people have been killed in the Strip by Israel.
