Gaude, the association that changed its name from Uribe Kosta in 2017, has highlighted its presence in the traveling exhibition organized for Leioa's 500th anniversary. The entity justified its name change by citing its community presence, barrier-breaking efforts, defense of full citizenship rights, opportunity generation, and life project support.
The exhibition, which gathers all the municipality's identities, features a panel by Gaude displayed on the Udondo boulevard. This panel summarizes the work carried out by the group of people with intellectual disabilities at the Donibane occupational center, promoting a sustainable environment, real and barrier-free participation, equality without limits, rights without walls, and an inclusive Leioa as its main banner.
Members of the association stated, "We have all worked together and had a wonderful time, because besides working, we also do other activities." At the Donibane center, nearly 100 individuals undertake work tasks for half a day in collaboration with companies, thereby integrating Gaude into their production chain.
“"Users always welcome new initiatives very well, and for them, showing and seeing that we are part of the community is a joy."
The manager of Gaude, Gorka Goikoetxea, expressed his "pleasure" in collaborating with this exhibition and other 500th-anniversary activities, considering it a "natural" occurrence. He detailed that, in addition to the Donibane center, the organization has its own office, a residence, and a day center, as well as providing employment support through local businesses.
The mayor of Leioa, Iban Rodríguez, commented that Gaude's "perspectives" reflect the municipality's essence: diverse, open, and proud of its people. "Gaude is a very active organization in Leioa, and it was undeniable that they had to be part of this anniversary. We will continue to advocate for creating a municipality for everyone," the mayor emphasized.
Members of this collective also posed for the Begitxu caravan, which has already captured over 1,800 portraits of Leioa residents.
