Although there are still almost five months until the Santacruces festivities, the Galdakao City Council and the Festivities Commission are already immersed in preparations. In the musical section, the Council launched a citizen participation process weeks ago, allowing residents to choose their favorite singers and groups.
This initiative, promoted in recent years, resulted in the selection of Kaotiko, Les Testarudes, and Latzen by 758 Galdakao residents. However, the Festivities Commission reserved the right to choose one of the artists, and after an internal vote, the group Neomak was selected.
The Neomak concert will be the first, on Friday, September 11th. This musical project, formed by four women, reinterprets Basque tradition from a contemporary perspective, with a style that fluctuates between folk, pop, and electronic music. The main event of the Santacruces will arrive the following day, with the punk-rock sounds of Kaotiko. This classic group released an album last year celebrating its quarter-century career, featuring some of its most iconic songs, which can be heard in Galdakao.
The following weekend will open on Friday, September 18th, with Les Testarudes, a Catalan band of ten women born between 1996 and 2003 who have sought to occupy their place in masculinized styles such as ska, rocksteady, or reggae. On Saturday, the group Latzen, one of the most prominent Basque rock bands of the 90s, will close the festival lineup with their new album Denboraren Orbainak. All concerts will be held in Ardanza Park.
