Starting today, the agents forming part of the sixth joint promotion of the Euskal Polizia will reside at the Arkaute Academy from Monday to Thursday for approximately nine months. In total, 278 agents have successfully passed all theoretical, psychotechnical, and physical tests of the first phase of the selection process. Following their training period at the Basque Police and Emergency Services Academy, they will undertake practical training with the Ertzaintza and local police forces.
This morning, the opening ceremony for the academic year was held at the Basque Police and Emergency Services Academy, attended by the Minister of Security, Bingen Zupiria, and the Director General of the Academy, Jon Goikolea. Also present were the Deputy Minister of Security, Ricardo Ituarte, the Director and Chief of the Ertzaintza, Victoria Landa and Josu Bujanda, and the Director of Administration and Services of the Academy, Olga Fernandino.
Of the 278 individuals admitted to the Arkaute Academy, 148 will train to become Ertzainas, and the remaining 130 will become local police officers in various municipalities. Among these, Bilbao will receive 66 agents, Vitoria-Gasteiz 26, and Barakaldo 12.
The profile of the new students in the sixth joint promotion of the Euskal Polizia indicates that 61.7% are under 30 years old, and 77.69% have accredited a Basque language level higher than B2. The majority originate from Bizkaia (58.39%), Gipuzkoa (17.15%), and Araba (14.9%), with 31.6% being women.
The Academy has reinstated the boarding system for this promotion, an educational model used before the pandemic, aiming to foster cohesion, knowledge, and collaboration between Ertzainas and local police officers. During these months, agents will receive intensive theoretical and practical training designed to acquire the necessary skills for their future roles.
Those who successfully complete this training stage will receive their diploma and begin 12 months of paid internships in the Euskal Polizia forces where they have secured a provisional position. Upon successful completion of these internships, agents will definitively acquire the status of career civil servants. In September, an additional 320 individuals from the 35th promotion of the Ertzaintza are expected to join this group, filling the 596 boarding places available after the summer. Their stay in Arkaute is scheduled to conclude in the spring of 2027.
