Euskadi will host the prestigious ENCATC Academy on Sustainable Cultural Management and Policy from April 21 to 24, 2026, a leading international training program in sustainable cultural management, organized with the support of the Basque Government and the Bilbao City Council.

The ENCATC Academy 2026 will solidify Bilbao and Euskadi as European leaders in cultural innovation, sustainability, and social transformation. This intensive training initiative will bring together academic professionals, cultural management leaders, and public policy makers from across Europe to share knowledge, experiences, and strategies aimed at integrating sustainability—in its environmental, social, and economic dimensions—into cultural institutions and public policy agendas.
Bilbao provides an ideal setting for this edition due to its track record in urban regeneration, citizen participation, and the development of integrated cultural policies. The city has received international recognition for its cultural and economic transformation process and its leadership in initiatives such as the Local 2030 Coalition, which promotes the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals. The ENCATC Academy program combines theory and practice through conferences, workshops, applied case studies, and visits to cultural venues.
The program is structured over four days of activities, including presentations and thematic sessions on sustainable management of cultural organizations, policy innovation, and transformation methodologies. Practical workshops will also be held, aimed at generating real organizational sustainability strategies. Furthermore, visits will be made to leading cultural institutions in Bilbao, such as the Guggenheim Museum, Harrobia, the Arriaga Theatre, Azkuna Zentroa, and La Perrera, facilitating immersive experiences that showcase models of sustainable practices. There will also be spaces for dialogue and collaboration between participants and international experts.
The ENCATC Academy serves as a unique forum to strengthen capacities, identify innovative solutions, and promote cooperation among public administrations, the cultural sector, and civil society regarding the challenges of the triple green, social, and digital transition. The training program's objective is to translate knowledge into real practices that drive sustainability in cultural organizations and public policies linked to the sector.
