The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Policy of the Basque Government has presented the Strategic Wood Plan of Euskadi 2030 (PEMA 2030). This document establishes a new roadmap to strengthen and transform the entire wood value chain, addressing the sector's main challenges and promoting economic activity, employment, innovation, and sustainable territorial management.
PEMA 2030 is structured around five strategic projects. Among these, the creation of BITEK, the Mixed Unit for Forest Innovation jointly developed by HAZI and Neiker, stands out. This unit aims to boost the sustainability, bioeconomy, and competitiveness of the forestry and timber sector in Euskadi. BITEK seeks to facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge to the forest and optimize resources, responding quickly to the real needs of sector professionals.
Concurrently, HAZI has developed the BASODATA project: a Digital Twin that can be used for planning, analysis, and decision-making in Sustainable Forest Management in Euskadi. This public digital infrastructure is designed to protect long-term forest governance against increasing environmental and climate pressure, positioning this tool as a technological benchmark in territorial digitalization.
