The new performing arts season in Euskadi commenced in Muxikebarri (Getxo) at an event led by the First Vice-Lehendakari and Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Ibone Bengoetxea. The gathering brought together approximately one hundred representatives from institutions, venues, companies, and sector professionals.
The season will feature over 2,000 performances, 1,200 different shows, and involve more than 1,000 companies, with expectations to exceed 500,000 spectators. It is projected that 40% of the performances will be in Basque and 60% by companies from Euskadi.
Vice-Lehendakari Bengoetxea emphasized the significance of SAREA, an interinstitutional network comprising 68 venues across 59 municipalities, in bringing culture closer to citizens and fostering sector development. Established in 1993, SAREA includes the Basque Government, provincial councils, and city councils.
The event also served to introduce the new "ANTZERKIYA!" campaign, designed to encourage the public to return to theaters and performing arts venues, marking the season's start and celebrating the network of professionals and audiences.
The Basque Government supports the entire value chain of performing arts, allocating approximately 3.096 million euros in 2026 to programs and support initiatives, in addition to 1.2 million euros for infrastructure and strategic projects.
