The Basauri City Council has published the balance of its Home Help Service (SAD) activities for the past year. In total, 294 people were assisted by the municipal service's staff. This service is provided to individuals, particularly the elderly, who face difficulties performing basic daily life activities.
The vast majority of users, 217, were women. 185 individuals live alone and have an average age of 81 years. The age range of people using the SAD in Basauri is slightly higher than in other Biscayan municipalities. 106 users are between 76 and 85 years old, and another 103 are between 85 and 95.
More than half of the total do not have a recognized or assessed dependency level. The SAD is comprised of 79 assistants, and their work is highly valued by users, with 95% reporting feeling «satisfied or very satisfied».
Last year, 2023, the Council modified the service's regulations «to introduce various improvements». For instance, attention hours were increased for individuals with recognized dependency levels, as well as for those «in a convalescent state due to a sudden cause».
Furthermore, individuals over 60 with disabilities and all those over 65 can now receive up to a maximum of 20 hours of service per month. For those over 85 living alone, this extends to 30 hours, the same amount available to individuals who, «according to technical assessment, are in a situation of exclusion, abandonment, or mistreatment».
