Citizens of Santurtzi and various social collectives gathered on Saturday to denounce the "police brutality" allegedly exercised against a young man who died following a police operation last week.

Hundreds of people convened in front of the Town Hall starting at 12:30 PM, under slogans such as "no to police brutality" and "justice for Ander." Protesters voiced various grievances against the police, including 'I would be ashamed to be a police officer' and 'struggle is the only way,' accompanied by loud whistling.
Lydia Sánchez, a member of the Socialist Movement of Ezkerraldea, stated that "four municipal officers killed a young man using a taser and batons." She criticized that "both the Santurtzi Town Hall and the media have tried to hide what happened and, furthermore, have shown unconditional support for the police in this incident".
"We believe that the responsible parties are direct and clear, both the police and their political leaders. We demand that measures be taken, that they be punished, and that guarantees be put in place so that something like this does not happen again," she added.
Furthermore, she believes that "lately, in the name of security, the police violently override people's rights." Therefore, she considers it necessary "to come out and mobilize against police impunity and so that in the future no one has to suffer something like this again."
The protest lasted for several minutes, and the attendees took a walk around the municipality, after which they read a manifesto upon returning to the small square in front of the Town Hall.
