Recent data indicates that the municipality of Barakaldo is now a safer place. During 2025, the crime rate experienced a 3.93% decrease, and strategic crimes, which generate the most public concern, fell by 9.11%. This information was presented at the Local Police Coordination Commission for Ezkerraldea-Meatzaldea, held in the municipality itself.

"These figures reflect that coordinated work yields results, and we will continue to collaborate with the Ertzaintza to increase police presence in the neighborhoods every day."

Among the crimes that cause the most alarm among citizens, the significant reduction in cases of violent robbery stands out, with an 18.91% decrease in 2025 compared to the previous year. Similarly, crimes against sexual freedom also showed a notable decline, specifically by 17.65%. Now, Barakaldo's challenge is to continue reducing its crime rate, with a particular focus on those offenses that generate the most concern among its residents.
To further solidify this downward trend in crimes committed in Barakaldo, the City Council will continue to implement specific plans to address various types of crime and to curb waves of robberies and attempted robberies, such as those that affected businesses and establishments in Gurutzeta approximately a month ago.

"We will continue to strengthen specific plans such as the trade plan in Cruces, which we launched a few weeks ago, or the control of bladed weapons, with the clear objective of anticipating problems and continuing to guarantee safety and coexistence in Barakaldo."

Furthermore, the municipal official stated that Barakaldo will never be a favorable place for criminal activity. The 2025 crime data was a key point analyzed at the last Police Coordination Commission for Ezkerraldea-Meatzaldea. These periodic meetings, involving the municipalities of both regions and the Ertzaintza, serve not only to analyze crime data but also to shape the most appropriate and effective surveillance policies and deployments for each situation and location. The joint effort of the Local Police and the Ertzaintza aims primarily to make Barakaldo a safer place.
