The Bizkaia Provincial Council approved this Thursday the new edition of its aid program for the improvement of industrial estates, with a budget of one million euros. The initiative aims to promote the modernization, adaptation, and enhancement of these areas, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the companies located there and attracting new businesses.
The provincial institution highlighted that the quality of the business environment is a decisive factor for Bizkaia's competitiveness, economic growth, job creation, and general well-being. Consequently, the Department of Economic Promotion continues to prioritize the improvement of areas where economic activity takes place as a tool to bolster the regional business network.
"Industrial estates are strategic infrastructures for the territory's competitiveness," they stated. "Therefore, enhancing the services, common spaces, and management capabilities offered in these areas helps companies develop their activities in more modern, efficient, and prepared environments to face the challenges of the digital, energy, and industrial transitions."
Applications can be submitted from June 17th to July 3rd through the electronic headquarters of the Bizkaia Provincial Council. The call's budget amounts to 1,000,000 euros: 140,000 euros will be allocated to association and management plans, and 860,000 euros to investments for the modernization and improvement of industrial estates.
Both lines of action are complementary. The first focuses on fostering business associationism and developing comprehensive management and action plans for industrial estates, enabling coordinated identification of needs and planning of future improvement initiatives. The second line supports investments aimed at modernizing, adapting, and improving industrial estates, financing projects that enhance infrastructure, accessibility, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
The call also promotes balanced territorial development, with specific attention given to municipalities included in the strategic plans of regions such as Enkarterri, Ezkerraldea-Meatzaldea, Aiaraldea, Busturialdea-Urdaibai, and Debabarrena.
From 2019 to 2025, a total of 3,590,321.56 euros have been distributed in grants for investments in industrial estates. Thanks to projects supported between 2018 and 2025, progress has been made in the organization and joint management of industrial areas in municipalities including Ortuella, Arrigorriaga, Arrankudiaga, Galdames, Galdakao, Bermeo, Erandio, Muskiz, Balmaseda, Barakaldo, Basauri, Zalla, Alonsotegi, and Ermua.
In last year's edition, aid was provided for the creation of new management and action plans in the industrial estates of Barakaldo, Alonsotegi, Ermua, and Zalla, amounting to 48,000 euros. Since this aid line was launched in 2018, the Bizkaia Provincial Council has financed the development of 25 plans for the management and improvement of industrial estates, mobilizing over 282,000 euros.
Finally, the investments planned for modernization, adaptation, and improvement within the industrial estate action plan exceeded 980,000 euros in 2025. Based on the volume of grants provided for investments, the regions of Meatzaldea, Nerbioi-Ibaizabal, Arratia, Ezkerraldea, Lea Artibai, and Enkarterri stood out.
