An athlete from Arrigorriaga, a member of the Javi Conde Paralympic Club in Basauri, has claimed the top spot on the podium at the Spanish Paralympic Promises Championship, held last weekend in Torrevieja, Alicante. This 17-year-old athlete was the best in the competition, across both male and female categories and all disabilities, as highlighted by club officials.
This achievement marks a significant step in the athlete's career, who aims to participate in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. Next season, the athlete will compete in the Under-20 category, but will also participate in many absolute category events. The athlete secured this overall championship by winning both track races entered in the visually impaired athlete category: the 1,500 meters and the 400 meters.
“"It has been a great joy for the entire club and, undoubtedly, very rewarding for the upcoming events still ahead."
Upcoming competitions include the Euskadi Championship next week, and in May, the Zaragoza Meeting and the CESI Spanish Championship, which will take place in Ourense. In the latter, the athlete will run the 1,000 meters, as it is an inclusive event. Furthermore, the important Basauri Paralympic Meeting on May 31st, at the Artunduaga sports center, should not be overlooked.
The representation of the Basauri club at the Torrevieja Spanish Paralympic Promises Championship was completed by another athlete, also 17 years old. Their participation was equally outstanding, earning gold medals in the 400 and 1,500-meter distances in their intellectual disability category. This athlete has only been with the club for a couple of years and is already the Spanish Junior Cross Country Champion in the 3,000 meters on track and runner-up in the 1,000 meters. Club officials have high expectations for this athlete's future, as they are achieving very good results and can aspire to great goals.
