Bizkaia will become the main hub for the biotechnology sector from September 29 to October 1, 2026, hosting the next edition of Biospain at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC).

This Tuesday, this benchmark event for the Spanish biotechnology sector was presented, organized by the Spanish Association of Bio-companies (AseBio), in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Basque Government, and the Basque Health Cluster (BHC). The organizers emphasized the sustainable growth of the event and its strategic importance as a driver of innovation, business, and talent for the biotechnology sector.

"Biospain 2026 will bring together the main actors of the biotechnology sector in Bilbao at a crucial moment for the consolidation of the sector in Europe, marked by the need to strengthen competitiveness, accelerate innovation, and advance towards greater strategic autonomy."

The meeting will offer a comprehensive view of the ecosystem, exploring scientific advances, regulatory challenges, and business opportunities in areas such as health, bioeconomy, and foodtech, fostering the creation of strategic alliances and inter-institutional collaboration. The Euskadi 2030 Industrial Plan considers the biosanitary industry as strategic, transformative, and growth-oriented, deploying support tools that complement the investment plan instruments.
For Bizkaia, hosting Biospain 2026 represents a strategic opportunity to project its capabilities in a decisive sector for the future: biosciences, biotechnology, and health technologies. Bizkaia holds particular relevance in the Basque life and health sciences ecosystem, concentrating 45% of companies, 44% of employment, and 56% of the sector's revenue in Euskadi.
Historically, Biospain has been held biennially, and the 2026 edition will be the first to operate annually, responding to a growing demand from the sector. The previous edition, in Barcelona, gathered over 2,400 participants from 35 countries. Euskadi has continuously committed to biosciences and biotechnology since 2002, especially in the health sector, consolidating the region as a European hub for innovation in life and health sciences.
The Biospain 2026 program will offer a comprehensive overview of the scientific, technological, and regulatory advances shaping the future of biotechnology. The agenda will focus on human health and personalized medicine, from gene therapies to the application of artificial intelligence in R&D. Areas such as bioeconomy, sustainable agriculture, and foodtech will also be addressed. The event will feature international experts and provide a unique space for networking and business opportunities.
