Euskadi is preparing to welcome summer with very high temperatures. Around 35°C are expected in the territories of Álava and Gipuzkoa, and these figures will be surpassed in several parts of Bizkaia. In fact, AEMET believes that Bilbao will register Spain's highest temperature on Sunday, June 21st: 43°C. In Vitoria, temperatures could reach 38°C, and in San Sebastián, 34°C.
From this Thursday onwards, we will begin to notice a rise in temperatures. Inland, the increase will not be very significant, but it will be notable on the coast. Maximum temperatures will range between 30°C and 35°C, and will exceed 35°C in some areas of the Cantabrian valleys. Sunny skies will also predominate.
On Friday, the heat will continue, and the risk of storms will be higher. Temperatures will be similar to Thursday's and very hot, both minimums and maximums. We will have clouds and clear skies. In the afternoon, developing clouds will appear, and some storms are probable.
On Saturday, maximum temperatures will be slightly below 30°C in Gipuzkoa, above that mark in Bizkaia, and around 35°C in much of Álava. However, the most extreme heat episode will occur on Sunday, with those 43°C potentially reached in Bilbao, the highest temperature forecast for Spain on that day.
It appears this intense heat episode will last only 24 hours in Bizkaia, as on Monday the mercury will hover around 30°C. This will not be the case in Álava, where many points in the historic territory will register maximums of around 35°C. In Gipuzkoa, the capital, San Sebastián, maximums will be around 28°C.
