Bilbao will transform the El Arenal pier into a showcase for future mobility from September 18-20, featuring an exhibition of zero-emission vehicles. The Sustainable Mobility Fair will bring together electric and hydrogen vehicles, bicycles, public mobility services, charging systems, and new solutions for more accessible mobility over three days.
The event will be inaugurated by Nora Abete, Councilor for Mobility and Sustainability of the City Council of Bilbao, alongside Javier Hurtado, Minister of Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption of the Basque Government, and Sonia Pérez Ezquerra, Provincial Deputy for Transport, Mobility, and Tourism of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
El Arenal will also host family activities, workshops, ginkanas, music, and bicycle-related proposals, while various companies will showcase solutions for more sustainable urban freight distribution.
The event is part of the European Mobility Week, which this year, under the theme "Universal Mobility," focuses on sustainable, accessible, and equitable mobility. It will offer the opportunity to discover the latest innovations and experience how urban travel is changing.
Visitors can explore over 25 models of electric vehicles and the possibilities of hydrogen technologies, including Irizar's electric and hydrogen buses. The presence of electric charging infrastructure will also be highlighted.
The evolution of Bilbao's public transport and accessibility systems will be showcased, featuring Bilbobus, Bizkaibus, Bilbaobizi, BizkaiBizi, and the Artxanda Funicular. According to Nora Abete, "Bilbao initiated this process years ago and is the European city with the highest number of vertical lift systems to reach our neighborhoods."
Bicycles will also be a major focus, with opportunities to learn about Euskadi's cycle tourism routes and engage with the Bilbaobizi public service. A new edition of "Domingos de la Bici" with further activities will take place on Sunday.
The fair will also address urban freight distribution (DUM), crucial for a sustainable city, showcasing initiatives related to sustainable distribution, including business projects using electric vehicles.
Throughout the week, from September 16-22, various activities will be held, such as electric boat trips, walking tours, races, and talks. Dr. María Neira, Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment at the World Health Organization, will give a conference titled "Health and mobility, a close relationship."
