The Bilbao City Council has unveiled a new edition of the Bilbao Izan program, starting in May with 'Discover on Foot' guided tours in the Arabella neighborhood, aiming to bring the city's history and heritage closer to its residents.

The Bilbao Izan program, an initiative by the Bilbao City Council, will highlight the history and heritage of the Arabella neighborhood throughout May. These guided tours, titled 'Discover on Foot', will delve into the social and urban evolution of the district, offering insights into Bilbao's urban expansion during the second half of the 20th century.
These tours are free and last approximately one and a half hours. To participate, prior reservation is required through the municipal website. Bookings for the first two weeks of May can be made from May 4, and for the second half of the month from May 18. Accompanied by a guide, participants will enjoy a pleasant route through the streets and squares of the neighborhood, discovering the transformation of this area located on the slopes of Artxanda.
Tours will be offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, at various times. Guided tours in Basque for individuals will take place on Thursday afternoons, at 6:30 PM. For groups, a minimum of 15 people must be formed, and a specific form on the website must be completed. Additionally, on May 22, at 6:30 PM, there will be a tour with a sign language interpreter, for which a special reservation can be made starting from May 4.
The Bilbao Izan program is primarily aimed at residents of Bilbao, but also welcomes all visitors to the city who wish to deepen their knowledge of Bilbao. This municipal project encompasses all dissemination programs that shape the unique character of the Villa, such as its history, cultural heritage, and the specific features of each neighborhood. This initiative aligns with the Bilbao City of Values project and the Bilbao Culture Strategic Plan 2023-2033, promoting cultural engagement among citizens and valuing the city's cultural identity.
