This initiative is primarily aimed at Bilbao residents, but it is also open to all those who visit the city and wish to learn more about Bilbao for different reasons, as reported by municipal sources. The program will offer a variety of activities, all free and accessible to all citizens.
During May, June, and July, guided tours titled 'Ezagutu oinez' (Discover on foot) will be conducted through the neighborhoods of Arabella, Santutxu, and Abando. These outdoor walking tours, lasting approximately an hour and a half, aim to reveal the history of each area. Participants will have the assistance of a guide who will explain historical content clearly and engagingly. Groups will be organized in both Basque and Spanish, and one group per neighborhood will also have a sign language interpreter. An audio guide will also be provided to each participant.
To participate, it is necessary to reserve a spot in advance on the Bilbao Izan website. As a novelty, those who require guided tours with a sign language interpreter will be able to use a specific web section enabled from the first day of registration to make their reservation. Each month there will be two registration opening dates. For the Arabella tours, free registrations will open from May 4 and 18; for Santutxu, from June 1 and 15; and for Abando, from June 29 and July 13.
Additionally, in September, a new edition of the 'Txio Ta Txio' videos will be launched, focusing this year on 'Bilbao's trains'. These short and engaging videos will feature anecdotes, unknown facts, notable figures, and curious stories related to the theme. Collections of previous years' videos are available on the Bilbao Kultura YouTube channel, where 302 videos have been disseminated since 2018.
Likewise, in autumn, the Argazkineta initiative will be launched for the eighth time, this time focusing on the Zurbaranbarri and Arabella neighborhoods. In these two areas, a selective compilation of memories and documentary material produced in those environments will be carried out. Subsequently, at an event open to participants and the public, most of the documents, old photographs, and testimonial videos collected in the project will be displayed.
