Addressing the challenges associated with population aging is a global objective. To this end, the World Health Organization Europe and the Provincial Council, supported by the Nagusi Intelligence Center (NIC), are holding the second edition of an international leadership course in Bilbao. This event, taking place from Wednesday to Friday, aims to confront social changes related to longevity.
Forty public representatives, researchers, and social agents from over twenty countries will participate in the training event titled “Aging is living: harnessing the potential of population aging.” Key issues such as “lifelong prevention, creating friendly environments, transforming care systems, and overcoming stereotypes about aging” will be discussed.
“"Aging is not a problem to be managed, but a stage of life full of potential, and governing aging well is one of the great public responsibilities of our time."
The significance of this event, which places Bizkaia “at the forefront,” has been highlighted. A “particularly significant” fact reflecting the program’s “exceptional demand” is the receipt of “more than 800 applications for 40 places.” The working sessions aim not only to foster “knowledge” but also to “identify real leadership challenges and advance concrete and applicable solutions” to “turn public policies into actions where they matter most, in people’s daily lives.”
The sessions, from a “practical perspective,” will combine panels with international experts in public health and aging, along with collaborative spaces to share different experiences. Bizkaia will also present its experience in transforming long-term care, a “person-centered model” supported by tools such as cohabitation units in residences, etxeTIC centers for home support, and regional reference centers.
