As is customary, Bilbao City Council will join the celebration of Lesbian Visibility Day this coming Sunday, April 26. To mark the occasion, it will launch an awareness campaign designed to highlight the reality of lesbian women, fostering respect and equality for sexual and gender diversity.
The City Council reaffirms its commitment to real equality and the construction of an inclusive and respectful city that embraces all individuals with equal rights and opportunities. This commitment aligns with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the Bilbao Charter of Values, within the framework of the Bilbao City of Values project.
“"Through this campaign, we want to reaffirm that diversity is a fundamental part of the identity of Bilbao residents and our way of understanding the city. This day we celebrate is key when it comes to reflecting on the need for a society free of prejudice and discrimination."
In this vein, Bilbao City Council carries out various initiatives to support the work of the LGTBIQ+ collective in the Bizkaia capital, promoting their visibility, social awareness, and the eradication of all forms of discrimination. This institutional commitment is materialized, among other actions, through the I Municipal Plan for Sexual and Gender Diversity (2025-2030).
The campaign's image is structured around the name of Bilbao, adopting the colors of the collective as institutional, social, and citizen support. One of the prominent elements is the graphic nod of the letter "O" in the word Bilbao, which becomes a symbol of visibility and an open perspective. The image is completed with the slogan 'Bagara eta bagaude ikusgarri/Visible somos y estamos', a clear and assertive statement of the presence, voice, and reality of lesbian women.
