The Bilbao Choral Society and the Philps Symfonie Orkest will present a special concert this evening at San Pedro church in Bergara, as part of the commemorative events for the 140th anniversary of the Bilbao Choral Society.

The performance, scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, will revive the role of San Pedro church as a major concert venue, a tradition that dates back to the 60s and 70s with the Orfeón and continues to this day with the recent visit of the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra in 2024. Currently, the church is undergoing restoration work on its main altarpiece.
This event will bring together 120 singers and several dozen instrumentalists. The free-admission concert was made possible through a connection between a Bergara resident and the director of the Philips Symphony Orchestra.
The Bilbao Choral Society is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year. Founded in 1886 with the aim of promoting the knowledge and dissemination of music, especially choral music, the entity currently comprises three amateur choirs: children's, youth, and adult, all recognized in the professional sphere. Furthermore, the Choral Society has historically been involved in musical education, operating a music teaching center for over forty years.
For this concert, the director of the Bilbao Choral Society and the director of the Philps Symfonie Orkest have prepared the repertoire separately for the two engagements and conducted a joint general rehearsal. They will perform a newly composed piece for Philips by Dutch composer Hendriks, in addition to Gloria by Francis Poulenc and Dmitri Shostakóvich's Symphony No. 10.

"Before his departure, he had already secured this concert, which is scheduled as part of the Choir's 140th anniversary."
